Club Northern Beaches Bowls Club

Location: Mackay, QLD
Year: 2026

After winning an invited design competition, BRD Group was thrilled to unveil our transformative vision for Club Northern Beaches Mackay! To service Mackay’s rapidly growing northern suburbs, this expansive multi-stage redevelopment replaced outdated facilities with a striking statement entry, expanded gaming room, and a modern sports bar flowing onto an expansive terrace. Another major highlight is a new full canopy over the lawn bowling green, ensuring year-round comfort from the tropical elements. Supported by significant carpark expansions and exciting future stages for dining and function spaces, this design set a new standard for community entertainment.

Brightwater Tavern

Location: Brightwater, Sunshine Coast, QLD
Year: 2013

The Brightwater Hotel has  created a new social venue within a booming southern region of the Sunshine Coast.

Located on a picturesque freshwater lake in the Brightwater estate, the hotel was designed with a focus on creating a hub of social  activities for all ages.

The hotel comprises of three bars, a bistro, two dining rooms, a 250 person function facility, a gaming lounge, and a kids room.

The hotel provides a relaxed, flexible and family friendly social hub for patrons, with diversity being achieved through generous sized facilities, emphasised through the use of high level glazing and generous ceiling heights. Natural lighting and ventilation was achieved through the implementation of oversized facade openings and expanses of glazing.

The hotel is inherently linked with its landscape and surrounding inhabitants, with the site and spaces allowing for ultimate flexibility through an open plan layout, clever screening and zoning of specific use areas

Parklands Tavern

Location: Meridan Plains, Sunshine Coast, QLD
Year: 2016

Parklands Tavern is a modern complex servicing a growing neighbourhood on the  Sunshine Coast.

The building form incorporates varying skillion roofs, a mixture of heavy and lightweight wall construction and extensive landscaping.

The Tavern features an innovative sustainable garden and petting zoo, which has been structured within the external dining terrace.

Parklands Tavern was designed to be family orientated and to suit the coastal lifestyle through extensive outdoor dining.

Project Gallery

Coolum Surf Club

Location: Coolum, Sunshine Coast, QLD
Year: 2015 / 2021

The Coolum Surf Club undertook a complete
refurbishment including entirely revamped social facilities, which allowed for almost double the patronage.

Also included was the redevelopment of their ‘Nipper’ amenities, gear storage, reception/admin and member training rooms.

The upper level of the building required the most change, with new amenities, function rooms, main bar, gaming room, TAB, kitchen and storage, various dining areas and extensions to the external dining decks.

NEW MEMBERS AREA
The design outcome for the new members area resulted in a vibrant day use area for active club members, complete with an idyllic outlook to Coolum Beach.

This area of the club feeds off the internal multipurpose rooms, kitchen/cafe, and amenities, ultimately tying in with the rest of the club design.

Overall this area provides active members with their own designated space to enjoy the camaraderie that the club encourage.

Oak & Vine

Location: Melbourne CBD, Vic
Year: 2015

Oak & Vine is an innovative concept to inner city bar/restaurant design. The tenancy has been transformed from a pokey bar into a vibrant ‘place to be’.

With an innovative use of timber, vibrant colours and design elements used to create a sensational socialising experience.

Existing street glazing within the space consisted of large sliding panels which were the inspiration behind creating a ‘wintergarden’ deck dining experience.

Extensive use of timber,  greenery and variable
windows allows for a casual, flexible patron area with the space also providing the transition between the street pedestrians and the internal bar.

Internally, the fit-out provides a signature bar that incorporates stone, timber, and metal which is emphasised through the use of specialty lighting.

Operable bi-fold doors allow the merge of the dining and guest waiting areas, thus creating separate spaces with visual connections.

The Post Office

Location: Maroochydore, Sunshine Coast, QLD
Year: 2015

The Post Office Bar & Restaurant adopts a simple
layout emphasised with a vintage/industrial look, offering locals a cool place to eat and listen to live music.

The transformation of the once derelict commercial office space has brought a new energy to the bones of the building.

The use of authentic materials and finishes, many sourced locally, brings a considered design response with an appropriately matched level of comfort for patrons of the establishment.

Maroochy Surf Club

Location: Maroochydore, Sunshine Coast, QLD
Year: 2000 / 2012

Maroochy Surf Lifesaving Club is an iconic building located on Maroochydore beach. BRD Group have had the  pleasure of working with the club since 2000.

BRD Group have been involved with both master planning and individual refurbishment projects.

The refurbishment works included demolition of 60% of the original building which now comprises of three levels that incorporate both member and public patron facilities.

Chancellors Tavern

Location: Sippy Downs, Sunshine Coast, QLD
Year: 2009

Chancellors at Sippy Downs is a contemporary tavern design with a successful mix of parapet walls, flat roofs and significant skillion roofs,
creating both internal and external features.

The combination of heavy and lightweight materials resulted in a building with flexible
spaces, high ceilings, extensive natural lighting and a modern, enduring fit-out.

Charlotte's Bar & Bistro

Location: Brisbane CBD, QLD
Year: 2009

The resultant design for this bistro produced a functional layout of dining areas to one side and service areas to the rear and opposite site of the tenancy.

The initial brief for Charlotte’s Bar & Bistro was to cater for the breakfast needs of hotel guests from the above building and to service the local office workers during the lunch period with a bar that would capture the social ‘after work’ drinking patronage.

The bar consists of bright colours and features to attract pedestrian attention, with a ‘theatre style’ kitchen allowing patrons to view the cooking activities.

The dining area showcases several feature décor items varying from built-in wine cabinets, artwork panels, lighting fans, and feature cabinetry.

The warm atmosphere is emphasised through interior colour selections which compensate for the predominantly cold and shady orientation of the restaurant.

Mary River Motor Inn

Location: Gympie, Sunshine Coast, QLD
Year: 2011

The Mary River Motor Inn located in the thriving community of Gympie consists of six buildings that incorporate 50 motel units, restaurant and function facilities.

Designed as part of the Motor Inn development, the Mary River Restaurant is a premier venue catering for large functions and conferences.

Capricorn Tavern & Motel

Location: Yeppoon, Central QLD
Year: 2009

BRD Group was commissioned to design a ‘family-style’ tavern which was to cater predominantly for local residents, but also appeal to the tourists that are visiting this increasingly popular location. 

The building includes a sports bar, gaming room, lounge area, kitchen and bar areas, dining zones, and an outdoor terrace.

A large bottle shop was also included within the design, with an attached drive-thru facility. The motel consists of 32 rooms with a Manager’s unit on the first level, allowing for the car parking,  administration, and guest recreational areas to be on the ground level.

The exterior of the tavern and motel have been designed with a vernacular style in harmony with the local seaside community.

The finishes consists of a contemporary style in presentation and have overall assisted the complex in establishing a strong local attendance.

The Metropole Hotel

Location: Townsville, North QLD
Year: 2008

Built in 1886, The Metropole Hotel in Townsville has been carefully rebuilt behind the refurbished heritage facade, maintaining the original charm and character.

Externally, the new building consists of a new balcony, roof, balustrading, lower roof, and
streetscape structures that pay homage to the original design.

Internally, the ground floor includes a lounge/ tapas zone, dining room, kitchen/servery, lounge, bar, gaming room, amenities, and a sports bar.

The first floor consists of two function rooms, a large bar, smaller kitchen, amenities and
administration rooms.

Il Secondo

Location: Maroochydore, Sunshine Coast, QLD
Year: 2008

Il Secondo is a small, Italian themed restaurant and bar situated under a residential and office complex in the entertainment precinct within the CBD of Maroochydore.

The fit-out included several internal feature items and an external covered terrace area, mimicking a traditional Italian courtyard.

The Grand Hotel

Location: Gladstone, Central QLD
Year: 2007

The restoration of The Grand Hotel in Gladstone consisted of refurbishment of the hotel kitchen, bar and dining areas, gaming rooms, and the bottle shop. 

The addition of an outdoor dining area was also added, with streetscaping and overall refurbishment of the facade also part of the renovation.
